The trade, by the numbers

0

Roughly how many times the average garage door opens and closes in a year. Four trips a day, every day.

That is 1,500 hard turns on your torsion springs every single year, and springs are rated by cycles. They do not warn you when the count runs out. They snap, usually at 6 AM on a Monday. We replace them before that story starts.

Garage door springs are color-coded by wind direction. The paint tells the tech which way the coil winds before a wrench ever touches it. Ask any tech in the trade.

What we fix

Every cycle, handled

A garage door is a simple machine under a lot of tension. These are the jobs we do every day across Orange County.

01

Spring replacement

The number one failure in the trade. Torsion springs do the actual lifting, your opener just guides the door. When a spring snaps, the door turns into dead weight overnight. We size, wind, and balance a new matched pair so the door floats at waist height and stays there.

Opener repair

The opener runs every open and every close, which makes it the first thing you notice and the last thing to blame. Stripped gears, faulty circuit boards, dead remotes, sensors that drift. If the door moves by hand but not by button, the opener is the suspect, and we know exactly where to look.

New door installation

When the panels rot, rust through, or sag past repair, replacement beats another patch job. We install full new doors, from classic sectional panels to full-view glass like the one below, fitted, balanced, and sealed for coastal air.

Cable, roller, and track service

Frayed lift cables, rollers worn flat, and tracks knocked out of true. These are the quiet failures that turn into loud ones. We replace cables, rollers, and hardware, reset the track geometry, and test the door balance before we leave.

Up close

The torsion spring: a coil of steel holding hundreds of pounds of door in a held breath. This is the part that does the work.

The system

Anatomy of a cycle

One open-close cycle touches every part on this list. Knowing them is how you spot trouble before 6 AM on a Monday.

Torsion springs

The muscle. Mounted on a shaft above the door, wound tight, doing 90 percent of the lifting. A broken spring is the loud bang from the garage at dawn.

Cables and drums

The connection. Steel cables wind onto grooved drums at each end of the shaft, translating spring torque into lift. A frayed cable is a door hanging crooked.

Tracks and rollers

The rails. Vertical and horizontal track plus rollers guide the panels through the turn from vertical to overhead. Bent track or flat rollers make the grind you hear.

The opener

The guide. Responsible for every open and every close. If it fails, your door is stuck. We service stripped gears, faulty circuits, remotes, and sensors.

Balance

The test. A balanced door lifted halfway should hang in place. If it slams down or rockets up, something in the system is off, and we correct it before leaving.

Before you call

Questions, answered

How do I know my spring is broken?

Three signs: a loud bang from the garage with no obvious cause, a door that feels suddenly heavy or will not lift by hand, and a visible gap in the coil of the torsion spring above the door. If the door will not budge, do not force it. Call and describe the sound.

Can you come out today?

Same-day service is our standard across Orange County. For stuck doors and broken springs, call (657) 247-9128. The phone is answered around the clock.

Do you work weekends and nights?

Yes. We are open 24 hours, 7 days a week, with 24/7 emergency service available. A broken spring does not wait for business hours, and neither do we.

Repair or replace: how do I decide?

It comes down to the door's condition and the cost math. Springs, cables, rollers, and openers are almost always worth repairing. Panels that are rotted, rusted through, or sagging past repair are not. We give you the honest read and the price up front, and you decide.

Should I try to fix the spring myself?

No. Torsion springs store enough energy to injure a person badly, and winding them takes proper bars and a set sequence. This is the one garage door job the trade unanimously says to leave to a tech.

Which areas do you serve?

All of Orange County, anchored in Costa Mesa: Irvine, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Tustin, Fountain Valley, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, San Clemente, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, and Trabuco Canyon.
